Digitization of the ATA Carnet: the digital transformation of a passport for goods

ExpertiseNews

The result of many years of collaboration with the ICC and the dedication of numerous experts, the digitization of the ATA Carnet marks a key milestone in international trade.

Facilitating international trade through digital technology

For more than 60 years, the ATA Carnet has simplified customs formalities related to the temporary admission of goods abroad. A true international passport for business goods, it allows goods to cross borders without having to pay customs duties or taxes when the goods are intended to return to their country of origin.

Today, this long-standing procedure continues to be modernized through digitization. In collaboration with the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) and in partnership with the World Customs Organization (WCO), UDITIS is actively contributing to the transition of the ATA system to a fully digital operation.

As of June 1, 2026, the ATA Carnet will be digital.

A platform connecting international trade stakeholders

The digital transition of the ATA Carnet is based on a central platform that enables authorized organizations to manage and exchange data securely and efficiently. This international infrastructure now connects dozens of countries within a single digital ecosystem.

This development represents a significant improvement in terms of speed, traceability, and administrative simplicity. Information flows more quickly between the various parties involved, reducing the risk of errors and the burdens associated with paper-based processing.

More than a technological project, a human adventure

Behind this success lie many years of hard work, collaboration, and dedication. The digitization of the ATA Carnet brought together industry experts, customs specialists, representatives from chambers of commerce, national authorities, and technical teams from all corners of the globe.

UDITIS would like to extend its warmest thanks to the ICC and the WCO for their trust, vision, and unwavering commitment throughout this ambitious transformation. This project could not have been realized without close cooperation among the various partners involved.

We also extend our sincere thanks to all the employees who have contributed to this achievement over the years. Their expertise, perseverance, and ability to tackle complex challenges have helped advance a project that now benefits the entire ATA ecosystem.

Swiss Expertise with a Global Reach

The digitization of the ATA Carnet demonstrates UDITIS’s ability to design and develop mission-critical platforms used worldwide. This project also reflects our commitment to supporting international organizations in their digital transformation by applying innovation to real-world applications.

Through this achievement, we are proud to have contributed to the evolution of a tool used daily by thousands of companies and institutions around the world, and we are grateful to everyone who participated in this remarkable human and technological adventure.
